8 Best Home Remedies For Fever Blisters Or Cold Sore

Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are an infection caused by the HSV-1 virus. The infection is contagious and spreads through personal contact. A cold sore starts with an itching or tingling sensation around the lips that usually lasts for a day. It is followed by appearance of a fluid-filled blister outside the edge of the lips. A number of blisters usually merge and then burst. A crust forms on the open sore and the cold sores clear in a few weeks. Home remedies are often effective in reducing the pain and irritation associated with cold sores. They are also known to help in reducing the severity of the infection.

The Following Home Remedies Are Beneficial For People With Cold Sores.

To reduce the pain of the cold sores, apply ice to the blisters. Wrap the ice in a towel or plastic bag and apply it to the cold sore for about five minutes. Reapply the ice pack after ten minutes. Repeat for up to an hour.[1]

2. Baking Soda

Mix baking soda with some water to make a thick paste. Cover the cold sores with the thick baking soda paste. Leave it on for several minutes and then rinse off with warm water. 3. Tea Bag

Wet a tea bag with a little water. For a few seconds, place the wet tea bag in a microwave oven until it becomes very warm. Apply the warm tea bag to the cold sores. When the tea bag cools down, reheat it and reapply it to the cold sore. The tannin released by the warm damp tea bag helps in soothing the painful cold sores and reducing the swelling.[3]
