8 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of A Hoarse Voice Fast

Disorder of the vocal folds, the parts involved in sound production, makes the voice hoarse. Hoarseness is not a disease but a symptom of an underlying ailment or disorder. Laryngitis or inflammation of the vocal folds is the most common cause of hoarseness. It is usually associated with common cold or an infection of the upper respiratory tract. 1. Salt Water Gargle

Salt water gargle is the most popular remedy for hoarseness of the voice. It helps in clearing the throat, reducing inflammation and destroying germs associated with underlying infection of the larynx. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Gargle with the warm salt water several times a day.[1]

2. Basil And Honey

A mixture of basil juice and honey helps in soothing the throat and reducing the hoarseness of the voice. Basil is also known for its antimicrobial property that helps in fighting the throat infection that makes the voice hoarse. Take ten fresh basil leaves and extract the juice. Mix the juice with a teaspoon of honey and take it.[2]

3. Cinnamon And Cardamom

In a pan, add a teaspoon each of ground cinnamon and crushed cardamom seeds. Pour a glass of boiling water and soak the spices for a few minutes. Strain and preserve the liquid. Gargle with the warm liquid.[3]

4. Fenugreek Seeds

Prepare fenugreek seed infusion by simmering two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in six cups of water for 20 minutes. Strain and gargle with the warm liquid two to three times a day. The fenugreek seeds infusion has a soothing effect on the throat that helps in reducing the hoarseness.[4]

5. Radish Juice

Extract the juice of a radish. Drink the radish juice with a teaspoon of ginger or lemon juice. You may add some honey to boost the therapeutic property of the juice. Take the radish juice once a day for up to two weeks.[5]

6. Orange Peel Tea

Simmer about 9 grams of orange peel in water. Sip small doses of the orange peel tea two to three times daily. It helps in soothing the throat and reducing the hoarseness.[6]

7. Garlic

To reduce hoarseness, grate a clove of garlic, mix it with a tablespoon of honey and eat it before each meal. This remedy works best for reducing hoarseness associated with laryngitis because of bacterial infection or common cold. You can also break a garlic capsule and mix the garlic extract with warm water and gargle with the garlic water.[7]

8. Ginger

To get rid of hoarse voice, half a teaspoon of ginger juice mixed with some honey can be taken three to four times a day. Ginger mixed with asafetida is also known to help in providing relief from hoarseness. Take a piece of ginger root and make a hole inside it. Pack the hole with asafetida and wrap the ginger with a cloth. Heat the ginger. After unwrapping it, grind it. Take small pea-sized balls of the ginger and asafetida mixture four to five times a day.[8]
