5 Steps To Preserve Vision
We always love to preserve perfect eyesight. However, various factors contribute to vision loss. Nonetheless, regular screening of eye health, coupled with good nutrition and healthy lifestyle could prevent eye diseases and consequent vision loss.
Exercises
The effect of physical exercise on eye health is not clearly known. However, some ophthalmologists suggest that aerobic exercises could help to prevent glaucoma, by reducing pressure in the eyes. Nonetheless, certain eye exercises can help to strengthen our eye muscles.
One useful eye exercise is to imagine the figure 8 in front of you, and to trace your eyeball along the counter of the image. Another beneficial eye exercise is to place an object about 10 feet away from you. Focus your eyes on the distant object, and then gradually shift your focus on an object, about two to three inches away from your eyes.
Rest your eyes
Just like your body, you should occasionally rest your eyes to refresh them. Staring at the computer screen for a long time causes eye fatigue and dry eyes. Blinking is necessary to moisten our eyes. Often while working for a longtime, our blinking rate might fall.
To prevent eye fatigue or burning eyes, you should take occasional break from work and blink for about 30 seconds. Take a five minutes break after working continuously for about 1 to 2 hours. Close your eyes and place your palms on the eyes for about 5 minutes. This helps to relax your eyes.
Avoid sun
Sunlight could harm your eyes. You should always protect your eyes from sunlight. While traveling outdoors on a sunny day, wear a 100 percent UV protective sunglasses. Ultraviolet rays of the sun are often associated with macular degeneration and cataracts.
Nutrition
Foods rich in beta-carotene and vitamin A are extremely beneficial for the eyes. Leafy green vegetables, yellow and orange colored vegetables are rich sources of beta-carotenes. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are also good for the health of the eyes. Deficiency of these nutrients could lead to poor vision.
Diabetes is often responsible for vision loss. People suffering from diabetes, should always try to normalize their blood sugar level through nutrition, medication and exercises.
