A Mouthful of Woes
November 5, 2008
We all take od care of our body organs. Any trouble we encounter with our system can be rectified with medication. There is one part of our body, though, that does not find natural replacement easily. This is our teeth.
Our teeth and gums must be looked after carefully. The teeth are extremely sensitive and constantly overworked. With our eating patterns and the fluids we take in, the mouth is hardly given any rest. The teeth are exopsed to a variety of flavours and tastes, and also varied temperatures with hot and cold foods.
It is common for germs and bacteria to be present in the mouth. To keep them inactive and protect the teeth from damage is very important. Cavities in teeth form easily when food particles are left in the mouth, or if the teeth are coated with any sugars.
They begin to attack the enamel and cause damage right into the root. Excessive attacks cause surrounding teeth also to lose their energy and weaken. Constant attacks from germs cause teeth to losen and fall faster.
Bad breath is another problem caused by residues of food in the mouth. As food particles linger they begin to decay and cause bad breath. It has been found that bad breath affects about 98 percent of people.
The health of gums is also affected by poor care. They begin to weaken, losen and also get affected by diseases.
Gum care is most important as they support the teeth entirely. Infected and poorly cared for gums can also start to decay, causing further problems. Gums that are infected also have the tendency to contribute to bad breath.
Smoking also affects the health of the teeth. The breath worsens, enamel starts to wear away and the teeth begin to get stained by the nicotine in the cigarettes.
It is important to have a diet that has adequate intake of calcium for the teeth. Brush and floss the teeth regularly to care for them well, especially in the hard-to-reach areas. Visit the dentist regularly for a check-up, and attend to any tooth problem immediately. This will prevent the problem from spreading, getting out of hand, and also stops extractions.
Care for your teeth well, and you will have a legitimate reason to keep smiling.
