Pre-empt Acne and acquire a blemish free skin! Acne occurs when skin pores are blocked. The oil (sebum), which usually penetrates to the surface, is prevented from draining allowing the bacteria to grow. Such bacterial growth develops into non-inflammatory skin blemishes called “white heads” or “black heads”.
The “white heads” are minute spots, almost invisible, which develop when the bacteria stays under the skin. The “black heads” form when the skin pores open to the surface and the sebum containing skin pigment oxidizes turning into black or brown.
Once the follicle wall ruptures, inflammatory acne occurs. Usually it is caused by touching or scratching the skin. Such types of acne have numerous names like papule, pustule, nodule or cyst. Papule forms when the white blood cells cause the pores to become inflamed. Pustule occurs when the white blood cells appear on the skin surface.
When the inflamed skin lesion enlarges and engulfs the neighboring skin pores, nodules or cysts are formed. Such skin infections are normally sore to touch and puss filled. Tiny white bumps, called “milia”, occur when sloughed skin cells are entrapped in the skin’s surface. This is another type of infection.
Body acne is commonly found on the chest, shoulders and back side. Studies have revealed that people with face acne are susceptible to such skin protrusions. These spots are larger and more severe. Usually damp and unclean clothing as well as body perspiration contributes to skin irritation resulting in such eruptions. To prevent skin lesions, loose cotton clothing, frequent bathing and regular clothing changes after work-outs are strongly recommended.
There are effective treatments to cure acne. They may be natural, home made remedies or light medication. In all cases, the skin has to be cleansed and dried thoroughly. Applying alpha hydroxide acid (10%) over 2.5% benzyl peroxide brings relief. Scars from this infection may be treated by Acetone application.
While the medication products are important, quantity to be used also matters. A mild cleaner is initially applied followed by 2.5% benzyl peroxide and a good moisturizer. The products need be applied softly and should be left untouched for hours. For removal, gentle washing is advised to prevent skin irritation.
It is true that scientists and the medical fraternity are yet not fully aware of the causes behind acne. But it has been established that skin irritation is the primary reason. Acne infected persons have found that applying benzyl peroxide may dry the skin but it also acts as a peeling agent. This prevents clogging of the skin pores. Regular application allows the mixture to penetrate deeply into the skin bringing amazing results. Eating a balanced diet also helps.
