Angelica, Sarsaparilla And Fenugreek: Herbs For Remaining Young

June 13, 2009

For centuries, people from different cultures are relying on specific herbs to retain their youthful vigor. In ancient medicines, certain herbs are trusted for their role in arresting the aging process. In China, angelica, in America, sarsaparilla and in India, fenugreek is used to retain youth.

Angelica

If you are awed by the youthful appearance of Chinese women despite their age, then the credit probably goes to an herb named Angelica sinensis. Chinese women often start taking the herb from puberty. In traditional Chinese medicine, angelica is prescribed to relieve painful cramps during menstruation. This herb is also believed to help in conception and makes delivery less painful.

Angelica is also a menopause herb. Menopause makes the skin lose its elasticity. However, intake of angelica will help to retain the youthful appearance of the skin, nails and hair. The plant hormone is believed to replenish the reduced estrogen level in women during menopause.

Besides, improving the skin quality during menopause, angelica also improves sexual drive. Angelica is also good for our digestive health, promoting secretion of digestive juices. It also strengthens the immune system, which becomes vulnerable with age.

Sarsaparilla

In the nineteenth century, American doctors often prescribed this herb to patients who wanted to retain their youthful vigor. Modern researchers have found that the steroids present in the root of this herb are responsible for rejuvenating your body. This herb is especially suitable for treating muscle and joint weaknesses. It aids in muscle growth. Sarsaparilla is also capable of reducing joint inflammation, which is a common symptom of aging.

Fenugreek

The fenugreek seeds are largely used in traditional Indian medicine for treating various ailments. Fenugreek contains certain steroids, which are similar to the ones found in sarsaparilla. Fenugreek reduces blood sugar level and bad blood cholesterol – the two factors responsible for stealing your youthful vigor. In traditional Chinese medicine, this herb is used for increasing sex drive.
