Powerful energy drink
Beet juice is a powerful energy drink. In a University of Exeter study, it has been found that this vegetable juice could boost energy. By drinking 500ml of beet juice daily, you could exercise for a longer time. The nitrate present in beetroot reduces the body’s oxygen requirement, making it less tiresome to exercise. This property of beet juice could be beneficial for people suffering from respiratory and cardiovascular problems.
Reduces blood pressure
Beet juice is beneficial for people suffering from hypertension. In a study, researchers found that by drinking two cups of beet juice the blood pressure level could drop significantly. The nitrate found in beet is believed to be responsible for this blood pressure reducing function. When we drink beet juice, the bacteria living on the tongue converts the nitrate in beet juice into nitrite. After entering the stomach, either nitrite is converted into nitric oxide or it is absorbed in the blood as nitrite. High level of nitrite in the blood tends to push down the blood pressure level.
Treats gallbladder problems
Beet juice is used as a home remedy for treating gallbladder disorder. Beet juice is mixed with cucumber juice in equal proportion and taken to heal symptoms of gallstones and gallbladder problems.
Helps in cleansing
Everyday significant amounts of toxins accumulate in our body. Beet juice can help to eliminate these toxins from the body. The juice extracted from a quarter of a large whole beet is enough to cleanse your blood, liver and kidneys.
When to avoid
Although beet juice is beneficial for a normal healthy person, its high oxalic acid content makes it unsuitable for people with kidney stones or those who have risk of developing kidney stones. You should avoid beet juice if you have osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis or gout.
