Benefits of Burdock


Burdock, whose scientific name is Arctium lappa, is a native plant of Eastern Europe and Northern parts of Asia. This plant is also known as bardana, lappa, great bur, clotbur and beggar’s button.

The root of burdock is a popular medicinal herb used in traditional medicines. Burdock is a spiny, perennial or biennial herb that can grow up to 9 feet tall. The roots of this plant are consumed in the form of tea, tinctures or the nutrients are extracted to form herbal pills.

Burdock tea recipe

To prepare burdock root tea, it is recommended to soak about 2.5 grams of burdock root powder in a cup of cold water for at least two to three hours. Then boil the herb for about an hour. Strain and drink the tea.

Cold remedy

In traditional Chinese medicine, burdock root is used for treating cold, sore throat and tonsillitis.

The antioxidant properties of the flavonoids present in burdock root are more powerful than vitamin C. It can prevent cellular damage and can even stop malignant growths.
