Benefits of Curry Leaves


In the Indian and Sri Lankan households, curry leaves are an important ingredient in cooking. In traditional Indian medicine or Ayurveda the leaves of the curry plant is used for treating various illnesses.

The botanical name of curry leaves is Murraya keonigi. The curry plant is a deciduous shrub that can grow up to a height of 6 meters. These plants are found in the warm tropical climates of the Indian subcontinent.

Nutrients in curry leaves

Curry leaves contains vitamin C, iron, calcium and phosphorous. It contains significant amounts of fibers, proteins and carbohydrates.

Hair care

Curry leaves are used for hair care. It helps to retain the natural color of your hair. Add a handful of curry leaves in 200ml of coconut oil and boil the oil for 15 to 20 minutes. This oil acts as a great hair tonic. Regular intake of curry leaves could halt premature graying of hair.

Skin care

Curry leaves are also good for the skin. The juice of these leaves could cure irritations from insect bite. Minor burns can be treated by applying curry leaves juice on the affected areas.

Weight loss

Curry leaves help to flush out fats from our bodies. They can reduce the level of bad cholesterol in the body. Obese people could liberally consume curry leaves, which along with healthy diet and exercises could help to reduce weight.

Diabetes remedy

People suffering from type 2 diabetes could have curry leaves to reduce their blood sugar level. Having 8 to 10 fresh curry leaves every morning in empty stomach helps to normalize the blood sugar level within 3 to 4 months. Diabetes associated with obesity could be easily cured with regular curry leaves consumption.

Digestion

Curry leaves aid digestion. It is extensively used in Ayurvedic medicine for treating nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. To cure digestion problems, take two teaspoons of juice extracted from fresh curry leaves. You can add lime juice or honey to enhance the taste of the curry leaves juice.

Piles

Piles or hemorrhoids could also be cured by taking fresh curry leaves.
