Benefits of Grape Seed Oil

Grape seed oil that is often used in making salad dressings and baking dishes has several health benefits. The seeds of Vitis vinifera variety of grapes, which are often left behind at the end of the wine making process, are pressed to extract the grape seed oil.

Grape seed oil is widely used in skin care. Several studies have uncovered more benefits of the grape seed oil. It contains several beneficial plant compounds that are also found in grapes. Grape seed oil has a clear color with a slight yellowish green hue. It has a nutty flavor.

Antioxidant

Grape seed oil is a powerful source of antioxidant compounds. Oligomeric procyanidin, a type of flavonoid present in grape seeds, is one of the most powerful antioxidant compounds. The antioxidant action of oligomeric procyanidin is 50 percent greater than that of both vitamin C and vitamin E. Grape seed oil also contains modest amount of vitamin E, another powerful antioxidant.

These antioxidant compounds prevent heart diseases, cancers, delays aging process and protect the brain cells from age related degeneration.

Improves capillary action

Grape seed oil promotes capillary function. The plant compounds present in it improves the health of the capillaries. Grape seed oil helps to improve blood circulation. It could prevent capillary damage. Moreover, capillary damage could be treated with grape seed oil.

Lowers cholesterol

Grape seed oil is capable of lowering the level of the LDL or bad cholesterol in the blood stream. It also prevents oxidation of LDL cholesterol, preventing their deposition on the walls of the blood vessels. Triglyceride levels could also be significantly reduced with grape seed oil consumption.

Skin care

Grape seed oil is extremely beneficial for the skin. It contains alpha-hydroxy acid, which prevents appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Grape seed oil acts as powerful moisturizer, ideal for the aging skin. It can prevent damage of the skin tissues and it promotes regeneration of skin cells. It helps to maintain the normal structure of the skin tissues.

Grape seed oil is often used to fade stretch marks. It can be used for treating skin dryness and minor irritation. Applying grape seed oil regularly on the foot can cure foot odor. Grape seed oil is also used for hair care. It can prevent hair dryness.
