Benefits of Magnet Therapy

September 8, 2009

Magnet therapy is a form of alternative medicine, which has been used for several centuries for curing diseases. In ancient Egypt, China, India and Greece magnets were used for healing. Recent studies have found evidence of the effectiveness of magnet therapy.

Just like atoms of chemical substances, our human cells also contain a positively charged nucleus and a negatively charged surrounding membrane. In a normal healthy body, the positive nucleus is balanced by the negative surrounding layer creating neutral organic environment inside the body.

With constant exposure to toxins, the cells lose the negatively charged electrons from the outer layers, forming positive ions. These positive ions are harmful for the body. Magnet therapy seeks to cancel the adverse effect of these ions, by placing magnets of the correct polarity on the surface of the skin.

Two types of magnets are used in magnet therapy. Unipolar magnets have a positive south pole and a negative north pole. They help to align the ions in a single direction. Bipolar magnets have north and south poles alternating with each other on the same side of the magnet. This helps to negate the adverse effect of the opposing charges.

Chronic pain controlling

Recent studies have shown that magnet therapy could reduce chronic pain. Arthritis, back pain, tennis elbow, feet ache and headache could be cured with magnets. Magnetic bracelets, magnetic headbands, magnetic back brace, magnetic bands, and magnetic insoles in shoes can help to reduce pain. According to a Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston study, fibromyalgia patients sleeping on magnetic mattresses found relief from the muscle pain. Magnet therapy could also reduce post-polio syndrome pain.

Diabetic neuropathy

Researchers found that magnetic therapy could reduce the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. The numbness of feet, associated with diabetic neuropathy, could be significantly reduced by wearing magnetic footpads.

Insomnia treatment

People who have difficulty in sleeping can benefit from magnet therapy. Sleeping on a magnetic mattress can help you to fall asleep easily. Magnet therapy can also reduce depression and anxiety.
