Yogurt is no ordinary food. It has been lauded for centuries for its immense health benefits.
Source of good bacteria
Yogurt is a rich source of probiotic bacteria. These are good bacteria, which aids our digestion. To make yogurt, live cultures are added to milk. Cultures comprise of microorganisms, which are considered good for our health. Besides promoting digestion, good bacteria also boost our immunity. Studies have shown that by increasing the level of good bacteria in our body, urinary tract infection and vaginal yeast infection can be prevented.
Source of calcium
Yogurt is a rich source of calcium. Calcium is essential for our bones. Problems related to loss in bone mass, such as osteoporosis, could be treated by regular consumption of yogurt. People, who suffer from lactose intolerance, cannot consume milk and milk products. The incidence of calcium deficiency is high among these classes of people. It is seen that most people suffering from lactose intolerance can digest yogurt. Yogurt contains lactase, which help to break lactose. If you are unable to digest milk, rely on yogurt for your supply of calcium.

Yogurt is also a source of healthy protein. Since, it is rich in protein, yogurt helps to keep our stomach full for a long time. Yogurt is therefore recommended for people striving to lose weight.
Source of riboflavin
Yogurt is a source of riboflavin. Riboflavin or vitamin B2 is needed for healthy skin and body tissues. It helps in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Vitamin B2 is required for the absorption of iron. It is also good for our eyes.
Source of vitamin B 12
Yogurt contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is needed to build healthy nervous system. It is also essential for the production of DNA. It is also useful for development of red blood cells.
To make dry skin supple and soft, yogurt can be applied as a facial mask. Besides making the skin soft, the antibacterial and antifungal property of yogurt can help in preventing skin infections. If you have dry skin, you can apply plain yogurt on your face for about fifteen to twenty minutes, and then rinse your face with cool water. You can also add several ingredients such as orange or lemon peel, lentils, turmeric or olive oil to yogurt to make a facial mask.
