Brisk Walking Prevents Cancer

We all know that daily physical activity, even at a moderate level, is beneficial for health. Unfortunately, most of us are too busy to find time for exercises.

However, if you come to know that exercises can protect you from deadly diseases such as cancers, you will put on your walking shoes and start walking from the next day. According to health experts, 30 to 45 minutes of daily brisk walking could significantly lower the risk of cancers.

Walking prevents breast cancer

Studies have showed that 30 to 45 minutes of brisk walking, three to five days a week, could prevent more than 5000 breast cancer cases every year. Health experts have found that slimmer women have a lower risk of developing breast cancer.

The fat cells of the body, especially the fat cells in the abdominal area, produce hormones that trigger formation of cancer cells in the breasts. Moreover, walking is also beneficial for women suffering from breast cancer.

It can prevent constipation, which occurs as a side effect of chemotherapy. Moderate physical activities could even reduce anxiety, stress and sleeping difficulties that follow cancer treatments.

In a Harvard University study, researchers found that moderate activities might increase the chances of surviving breast cancer. Researchers found that walking 30 minutes a day reduced death from breast cancer by 54 per cent.

Walking prevents endometrial cancer

In a study, researchers at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville and Shanghai Cancer Institute in China have found that walking daily for an hour could reduce the risk of developing endometrial cancer by 30 per cent. Researchers have also found that endometrial cancer might be prevented by doing four hours of housework per day.

Walking prevents colon cancer

Brisk walking for at least 30 minutes a day could reduce the risk of colon cancer by a third. However, walking might not protect you from rectal cancer.

Walking prevents prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer in men. Health experts recommend brisk walking to prevent this cancer. Researchers believe that moderate exercises might lower the risk of prostate cancer by lowering levels of hormones that trigger formation of malignant tumors in the prostate.
