Burning Tongue and Its Remedies

Burning tongue which is other wise called Burning mouth syndrome causes an irritation, dryness and a burning feeling at corners of the tongue. This burning sensation may feel not only in tongue but also in gums, lips, hard palates, inner cheek etc.
It is commonly seen in women after their menopause or in middle aged people. This problem arises due to the lack of blood supply to the tongue or due to the problem in the nerves in the tongue. Burning tongue will not affect their ability to taste food.
Burning tongue can be a result of age or it may be due to the medications like anti depressants, antihistamines, very strong medications offered for cancer patients etc. The stress, tensions and anxiety may damage the nerves in the tongue and results in burning tongue. Deficiency of nutrients, food allergies, hormonal imbalance, chemical preservatives etc may also cause burning tongue.
Home Remedies for Burning Tongue
Diet
If you are a person having burning tongue then you must take care of your diet. You have to avoid spicy foods, beverages and also the hot ones. Include foods that are rich in iron and vitamin B complex, like gooseberries, potatoes, liver oil, bananas, broccoli, parsley, molasses, nutritional yeast, tuna, lentils, turkey, chili peppers, leafy vegetables etc. Increase the intake of water and keep your mouth moist. Try to keep yourself away from processed and canned foods as they contain lot of preservatives.
Take honey along with milk and this is found to cure burning tongue. Honey and milk will promote the flow f blood towards the tongue and thus gives you relief.
Glycerin
It is found that the application of glycerin on the burning tongue will give you a soothing effect and thus get rid of the burning sensation and the pain.
Ice
Suck an ice cube and you will get quick relief from the burning sensations.
Chewing Gum
Chewing gums that are free of sugars will definitely help you to keep the tongue moist and will help you to relieve the pain.
Lavender Oil
Apply some lavender oil on the burning tongue. The antiseptic property of lavender oil will help you to disinfect the affected tongue and it also increases the circulation of blood to the tongue. This will also give you relief from the pain.
