Caring For the Body In Winter

December 22, 2008

Keeping the body healthy during the colder months is very important. The onset of the winter brings in a whole lot of infections caused by changes in the weather, and colds, coughs, congestion are quite common.

The skin, hair, throat, lungs, and head are all affected by the cold. Here are simple ways to keep the body protected from ailments during winters.

Sleeping in the right atmosphere is very important. Keep the temperature of the room optimum, and use a good humidifier at night.

Winters are when arthritis occurs and gets aggravated most. This is a time for the elderly to be most watchful. Both the elderly and younger children need to be kept especially warm. Bring out cheerful sweaters, shawls, mufflers and scarves. Keep the head and ears of children covered as far as possible, since ear infections are common.

The cold should not kep you cooped indoors and without exercise. This season is by no means an excuse not to work out. Jog, and work out just as your regular routine demands.

Avoid getting stressed. High levels of stress are known to lower the immunity of the body, which can invite many more infections.

Fried foods and sweets can be given a miss. Although winters are tragically the time for celebration, make wise food choices and choose right forms of foods. Hot soups and well cooked vegetables are not only better substitutes, but also make better, warming foods for the winter. Broth, gren tea, and hot chocolate are good beverages for the throat and body.

Pasta, brown rice and potatoes are good foods for the winter as they are rich in complex carbohydrates. They help keeping the body warm, and also give more energy.

Find good ways to keep the body safe and you will see that winters and the holidays are far happier than you thought they were.
