Cashing in on Cardamom

Cardamom makes for excellent flavouring. Used in sweets, tea, and even as a spice in making vegetable gravies, it imparts a refreshing taste and fragrance.

Cardamom is a popular spice in tropical countries. It is found mainly in two varieties, small and big. The small cardamoms are more popular, and find good use. Slightly bitter in taste, cold in action, light in digestion and aromatic, it is useful in vomiting, nausea, abdominal colic, and is also a slight stimulant. It increases appetite because of its tendency to subside the air and water elements.

Cardamom can also stimulate the brain. Take one part of cardamom along with clarified butter, one part of molasses and have early in the morning along with milk for a month or two. This remedy is also a good aphrodisiac and rejuvinator.

The skin of cardamom which is not normally used can be kept in tea leaves to enhance its flavour. The skin is also burnt into ashes. The ashes of about twelve cardamoms mixed with honey and water help cure vomiting.

The oil of cardamom is also useful in curing common colds and also headaches.

Bananas and other heavy foods are more difficult to digest by a few people. If a few seeds of cardamom are taken and masticated well after eating a heavy meal, it helps digestion.

Cardamom has a wonderful flavour and is good in improving the breath. Chewing seeds of cardamom after meals can help neutralise flavours from the food well.

Make different innovations to your food using cardamom. It can spice up simple vegetables, add great taste to beverages like lemon sherbets, and even to ice cream. Use them in sweetened buttermilk and you will find gret benefits not only to taste but also to the health overall.
