Certain illnesses could embarrass you in public spaces. Anal itching is one such problem that causes an urgency to scratch the skin around your anus. Although, this is an embarrassing condition, you can easily heal this condition with some easy remedies.
Causes of anal itching
This embarrassing problem is generally a harmless condition. However, occasionally anal itching might be the symptom of a serious underlying physical problem. Presence of excess moisture in the skin around your anus due to excess perspiration or passing of frequent sticky stools due to diarrhea or fecal incontinence could cause anal itching. Dryness of the skin around the anus triggers anal itching. Skin diseases, such as eczema, psoriasis and seborrhea, which make the skin dry and flaky, could cause anal itching. The skin around the anus can become dry as we age. People suffering from diabetes have a greater risk of developing fungal infection in the area around the anus, which causes anal itching. In children, pinworm or any other parasitic infection could cause anal itching.
Yeast infection, which is common among women, could be responsible for this condition. Sexually transmitted disease that occurs in the anus could be responsible for anal itching. Hemorrhoids, fissures and anal abrasion might produce anal itching. In rare cases, presence of tumors in the anus causes anal itching. Wearing tight and coarse clothing, excess rubbing of the anus and use of harsh soaps and detergents could produce anal itching. If your skin is sensitive to certain ingredients in soaps and detergents, anus itching could occur. Use of fragranced toilet papers could trigger this condition. Intake of certain foods, such as nuts, caffeine, alcohol, tomatoes and popcorn, could cause irritation in the anus, provoking you to scratch your anus.
Anus itching remedies
If you experience intense anal itching, you should visit your physician. If your physician detects any underlying illness, such as fungal or parasitic infection, treating the disease will promptly cure anal itching. If any illness is not responsible for consistent anal itching, you can treat this problem with simple home remedies. After passing bowel, wash the anus area with wet toilet paper or cotton balls. Avoid using scented toilet papers. Gently pat the skin around your anus dry with a soft towel or toilet paper. However, do not rub the skin harshly. This would remove the oil of the skin, worsening the itching. Stay away from foods that trigger itching.
