Causes and Remedies of Earache
Earache is the pain in one or both ears. It can be due to the infection in the ear, ear canal or external part of the ear. The ear ache may be dull or severe depending up on the cause of infection and it can be a constant pain or temporary pain.
Earache is common in kids than in adults. There may be temporary hearing loss in some people at the time of infection or soon after the infection. If the frequency of infections increases there may be chances for permanent hearing loss.
Causes of Earache
Earache can be due to the infection in the external part of the ear like skin infection. After swimming there may be irritation and inflammation in the ear canal or external ear. It can be due to polluted water or object struck in the ear. The infection of external ear is called Otitis externa.
Otitis Media is the ear infection of the ear drum or middle ear. It is usually seen in kids of six months to two years of age. In Otitis Media fluid gets accumulated and develops pressure behind the eardrum. This causes the pain.
There is a tube called Eustachian tube that connects the middle ear to the nasal passage. Normally these Eustachian tubes take the fluid from the middle ear to nasal passage and thus equalize the pressure inside the ear.
When the Eustachian tube gets blocked due to allergy or inflammation the fluid build up inside the ear increases and thus creates pressure inside the ear. This causes pain, ear infection, hearing loss and stuffiness.
Chewing chew gum may help to reduce the pressure and pain inside the ear by helping the Eustachian tube to open.
Application of cold pack on the outer ear for about 20 minutes may help you to relive the pain.
Apply slightly warm nutmeg oil around the affected ear may help you to relieve the pain.
Take one teaspoon full of sesame oil and to this add half clove of garlic and heat till the oil becomes warm. Then lie on the bed on your side and drop four drops of this oil in to the ear and keep it for 10 minutes. Then turn to the other side and repeat this process.
Take some onion juice and warm it. Put 4 drops of this in to the ear before going to sleep.
