Dizziness is a condition in which the person feels very weak, lightheaded, unsteady and faint. The dizziness often creates a feeling of spinning yourself or your surroundings and this condition is called vertigo.
At times you may also suffer from loss of consciousness. The symptoms of dizziness may be different for different people.
The most common symptom of dizziness is general weakness, fatigue and feeling of fainting. Some times the patient may feel like dieing. Mostly the symptoms are short lived and rarely it is life threatening. These symptoms are commonly associated with sweating, nausea, blurred vision etc.
If you stand quickly or change your position immediately then you may feel dehydrated and loss balance with a blurred vision. Often it is accompanied by bleeding. At times there will be disturbance in heart rhythm accompanied with palpitation. The heart rate may be too fast, too slow and even irregular. Many people may have difficulty in concentrating. Vertigo is caused by loss of inner ear balance.
Dizziness is caused by the lack of blood supply to the brain. Low blood pressure, high blood pressure etc may cause damage to the brain and cause dizziness. A sudden fall in blood pressure due to diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and anemia may also cause trouble. This is because low blood pressure takes less oxygen to the brain and thus affects the brain functioning.
Diseases affecting the heart or drugs and toxins that can affect the heart rate may also cause dizziness. Inadequate blood flow from the heart may leads to dizziness.
Disease affecting the rain like tumor, stroke, hyperventilation, migraine and dementia are also responsible for dizziness.
Inflammation in the inner ear may cause loss of balance and leads to vertigo. Anxiety, stress etc may also cause dizziness. Certain medications like sedatives, antidepressants, diuretics, pain killers etc also pave the way for dizziness.
When you have problems in speaking, difficulty in walking, high fever, hearing loss, chest pain, loss of cofnsciousness or severe headache then you need a doctor’s help.
