Causes and Symptoms of Leucorrhoea


The glands present in vagina produces secretions that help the organ to be flexible and moist. It also prevents infection with its acidic nature. Leucorrhoea is the white colored cloudy discharge produced in excess by the cervix or vagina.

Normally the secretion from the uterus and upper vagina flows down and the lower vagina absorbs a part of it. But when the secretions increases due to some health problems then more discharge may flow down.

Symptoms of Leucorrhoea

There will be foul smelling white discharge from the vagina. The patient having this disorder may feel weak. Usually it is associated pain in the calf muscle and lumbar region. Many of them have a dragging sensation in the abdominal area. There may be itching of the genitals and irritability.

Pain during sexual act and burning sensation or soreness in the genitals are also common. At times it may cause frequent urge to urinate accompanied with burning sensation while urinating.

Digestive disturbance along with constipation is also a problem. Most of them complain about frequent headaches and spotting in the under garments. Sometimes it causes black circles around the eyes.

Causes of Leucorrhoea

Hormonal turbulence is found to be a major reason for this discharge. Any wound produced by scratching the vaginal area may also leads to this as it can pave the way for bacterial and fungal infections.

Trichomonal vaginitis, monilial vaginitis, cervicitis etc are all responsible for white discharge from vagina. Sometimes the unhygienic life style may also cause this disorder by creating infection in the vagina.

Infection in the urinary tract can also spread to the vagina and cause white discharge. Application of jellies or drugs in the genital may also cause leucorrhoea. Diabetes, anemia etc may weaken your immunity and thus results in infection in the genitals.

This condition of white discharge may last for weeks to few months and even if it persist then you need to consult a doctor as it may become a chronic infection if let unattended.
