Causes of Bad Breath, and Cures for the Problem


The most common ailment that people over the world suffer from is bad breath. This is a condition that is known to affect over ninety percent of the population.

You could be suffering from bad breath even if you brush your teeth twice a day. Though improper brushing could cause bad breath, brushing is by no means the only cause for bad breath. Remains of foods and other particles in the teeth cause decay and consequently, bad breath.

It is most important to rinse and clean the mouth after every meal to make sure that all particles are washed outof the mouth well.

Bacterial infections are another cause for bad breath. Gingevitis is another common reason for the problem. Symptoms could include bleeding, swollen or receding gums.

Insufficient generation of saliva can cause the mouth to become excessively dry. Secretion of saliva causes plaque to be washed away. When plaque remains in the mouth, it causes decay in the mouth which leads to bad breath.

If all the above problems have been ruled out and there is still no cause found for bad breath, it may be time to take a good look at your overall health. Problems like acidity, heart and lung ailments and a host of other ailments can also cause bad breath.

Simple rules of thumb should help in keeping bad breath in check. Start by brushing the teeth at least twice a day, and rinse the mouth well after every meal. Drink plenty of water through the day. Include some amount of carbohydrates in your diet regularly. Try and suck on a lemon after your meals.

This will help you to keep your breath fresh, and also keep the mouth clean. Make routine visits to the dentist a must. Never neglect any nags that you might have, and attend to even minor problems immediately.
