Cinnamon Oil Uses

Cinnamon oil is extracted from the bark of the cinnamon tree. Cinnamon, whose botanical name is Cinnamomum verum, is an evergreen tree. This plant is believed to have originated in Sri Lanka. Cinnamon is a popular spice used in cooking.

The dry barks of cinnamon are grounded and soaked in seawater for sometime, before it is distilled to extract cinnamon oil. Besides the bark of the cinnamon tree, cinnamon oil can also be extracted from the leaves of the cinnamon tree.

Cinnamon oil has a strong aroma. It is can be brown or golden yellow in color. Cinnamon oil is noted for its antimicrobial property. For centuries, cinnamon oil is used as an antibiotic.

Kills bacteria

Studies have found that cinnamon oil is effective in preventing bacterial infections. In the Middle Ages, tomb raiders, applied cinnamon oil on their bodies to prevent bacterial infections from the decaying corpse. Cinnamon oil could kill common bacteria found in the hospitals, such as E. coli and Staphylococcus. Even various strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria could be killed with cinnamon oil.

Reduces pain

Cinnamon oil can reduce the pain of inflamed joints. It is useful for people suffering from arthritis pain. Cinnamon oil is a natural analgesic. It is therefore effective in reducing pains. Its anti-inflammatory property is beneficial for reducing inflammations. Pure cinnamon oil can irritate the skin. Therefore, while using cinnamon oil for topical application, mix cinnamon oil with a carrier oil.

Stimulates cognitive function

Smelling cinnamon oil provided a soothing effect. It can improve brain function and cures anxiety and stress.

Benefits for oral health

Cinnamon oil diluted with water can be used as a mouthwash. It can prevent tooth decay by killing the harmful bacteria in the mouth. Problems of bad mouth odor can be cured by rinsing your mouth with cinnamon oil.

Cures nausea

Smelling cinnamon oil can cure nausea and prevents vomiting.

Cramps remedy

Add few drops of cinnamon oil to a warm compress and cover the cramp area. Cinnamon oil can help to heal muscle cramps. Even menstrual abdominal cramps could be cured with cinnamon oil added to warm compress.
