Common viral STDs
Sexually transmitted diseases are of two types and they are viral and bacterial. Among these most of the bacterial diseases are curable while most of the viral STDs are incurable. The most commonly seen viral STDs are Human Immunodeficiency Virus- HIV, herpes, hepatitis B etc.Herpes
Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by herpes simplex virus HSV-1 and HSV-2. It is transmitted while having unprotected oral, anal or vaginal sex.
Even a kissing with the infected person may cause the transfer of this virus. The virus gets transmitted even when there are no symptoms. The initial symptoms appear with in few days of infection and then subside for weeks or months or even for years and then reappear.
There may be 4 to 5 outbreaks of herpes per year and each times the symptoms last for two to four weeks. The symptoms include blisters, cuts, bumps, pimples, rashes etc. There may also be burning sensation, itching, tingling etc on the mouth or genital area. Sometimes the affected person may have swollen glands and fever.
Human Papillomavirus
This is another viral disease that is transmitted by direct contact with the infected person. It may cause warts on the vagina, cervix, vulva, scrotum, penis, urethra, anus etc. these warts may be flat or raised ones with a whitish or flesh color. These warts may not cause any itching or burning sensations and these warts may disappear after sometime and then reappear.
HPV may also cause abnormal growth of the cells in cervical region and it may even leads to cervical cancer. It is also transmitted from a mother to an unborn child. The warts can be removed with treatments but there is no permanent cure for the disease.
Human Immuno deficiency Virus
Human immunodeficiency virus cause a disease called acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in which the affected person lose his ability to fight with infections. This is because the immune system of the person gets weakened with this disease. It is transmitted through unprotected sex and will remain in semen, blood, vaginal secretions, and breast milk. This disease may also spread through contaminated needles.
AIDS may then leads to other opportunistic infections and the affected person may develop joint and muscle pain, weight loss, fatigue, chills, fever, sweats, sore throat, diarrhea, yeast infection, skin diseases etc. There are drugs that allow the infected person to live with HIV but there are no permanent cures.
