Coping With Sinusitis

November 29, 2008

Sinusitis is a common problem that affects the ear, nose and throat. While it is a common ailment to suffer, little is known about to get around the problem. Most people tend to resort to antibiotics for protection from this health condition.

What tends to happen most often, is that with time, the dependance on this medications tends to increase, and the medicine starts to become more ineffective. Simple preventive measures and care long with some measured medical help should be able to ensure clearer sinuses in the body.

The best things to do while suffering from sinusitis are as follows:

Stay in a well ventilated house. Avoid polluted and smoky surroundings. Avoid smoking and standing around those who are smoking as well. Passive smoking can irritate the sinuses almost as much as smoking itself.

Do not suppress the cold with self medication. A better option is to take inhalation of steam at least twice a day. Do not blow the nose very vigorously, and rest the body well if you feel unwell or are running a temperature. Undue stress and strain on the body is known to aggravate the condition.

Beverages are the best form of foods for the body. Drink plenty of warm beverages every few hours. Tea, coffee and soups make the ideal foods that soothe and do not irritate. Avoid icy cold drinks, sour foods and also citrus fruits completely.

Breathe through alternate nostrils for about two minutes every hour. This will help clear the nasal canals. Taking deep breaths and releasing slowly is another way of clearing the entire passage well.

Signs of recovering from sinusitis include decreased intensity, frequency and durations of the attack. Longer periods that are free from symptoms are another positive sign. A genereal feeling of well being should also help you know that you are on the road to recovery.
