Cracking the Problem

The winter brings with it woes of dry skin. Especially on the feet, they can take ugly forms of cracked heels that not only look bad, but can also pain and burn in the cold. Care for the dry cracked feet is very important as it could hamper movement.

Simply soak the feet in warm water that has some salt added to it. Try and do this when you are going to bed, and repeat every night. This makes the skin softer and also heals cracks better.

Wash the feet well, and then apply soap generously. Soak soapy feet in warm water and leave in for about fifteen minutes. Repeating this for a few days will bring good results as dead skin starts to come away.

Melt liquid paraffin and mix with some mustard oil. Take the warm mixture and apply well on the affected area. Leave it overnight. In about fifteen days the heels start to become smooth and cracks will disappear.

Before going to bed, apply some coconut oil on skin that has thickened. This will help keep the skin softer and stop the formation of cracks.

If there is bleeding from cracked heels, take some fresh turmeric paste and apply on the cracks along with some coconut oil.

Dilute rock salt in lukewarm water and soak the feet in it. This eases strained muscles and points, ensuring better blood flow to the hardened areas, and softens the skin.

The key to dealing with cracks is to try and fix the problem before it actualy strikes. Look for hard skin, excessive dryness and take better care to see cracks do not form. Not only are they painful, but more difficult to cure.
