Curative Power of Laughter
Laughter is not only a sign of happiness, but it is beneficial for our entire body. The beneficial affect of laughter is utilized by members of laughing clubs, who use laughter therapy to remain healthy.
Reduces stress
According to studies, laughter triggers secretion of dopamine, a feel good hormone, in the brain. As such, a good laugh is comparable to eating a delicious chocolate or having a fulfilling sex. In fact, getting addicted to laughter cannot be ruled out. A loud laugh often brings tears to the eyes. Shedding tears, during sadness or happiness, is a natural stress reliever.
Adds glow to your face
As many as fifteen small muscles of our face are involved in creating a smile. Laughter is therefore a nice facial exercise. It increases the blood circulation in the face, making us attain a pinkish tone without application of a blusher. The natural glow, which appears on the face with a smile, can hardly be replicated with the best makeup tip.
Exercise for the entire body
A vigorous laughter is a great exercise for the lungs, diaphragm and the voice box. As we laugh hysterically, larger volume of air is pumped in and out of the lungs. This brings in greater volume of oxygen in the body, adding to our health. A hearty laugh has the same effect on our body as jogging or exercising in a gym. Similar to exercises, a hysteric laughter pushes our blood pressure and heart rate up, and then pulls them back to the normal level. Therefore, if you cannot visit the gym regularly, consider opting for the laughter exercise.
Strengthens immunity
Researches have proved the efficacy of laughter in strengthening our immune system. People who frequently burst into a loud laugh have a higher level of immunoglobulin – chemicals that fight invading virus and bacteria. In addition, the T-cells in the blood increases, this indicates a strong immune system.
