Dealing With Overly Sensitive Teeth

Common dental problems include cavities, rotting teeth, bad breath and deformities in tooth structure. A rather uncommon, or less talked about problem related to the teeth is sensitiveness in the teeth. There are teeth that have the tendency to react more sharply to hot or cold sensations, causing shooting pain or tingling feelings.

Some teeth have a natural disposition to react to foods faster. This condition is found to be more marked in colder seasons. It may be noticed that while normally this problem may go unnoticed, in the cold it starts to become more prominent and noticeable. These changes are found when having either very hot or cold foods, or even if you breathe in very fresh air.

It is important to get the teeth checked if you find any unusual sensations while eating or drinking. It may be due to the presence of a cavity, or some problem in the roots or nerve endings of the teeth. Get it attended to as quickly as possible.

Try using toothpastes that are formulated to be desensitising. This helps block the sensations from traveling and can help control the problem. For those on whom these toothpastes do not work, ask the doctor for a special gel or application that can be applied to affected areas.

Avoid having very hot or cold foods that can irritate and cause trouble. Try and stick to foods that are at moderate temperatures.

It has been found that many remedies suggest the use of cloves or clove oil to relieve painful sensations. While these may be found to provide temporary relief, their use only burns the gum and surrounidng area, and is only causing irrepairable damage.

Care for the teeth is most important. Do not neglect any problem no matter how minor it may seem to you. Preventing further damage is important in avoiding getting the situation our of hand.
