Delay Aging with Herbs

December 26, 2009

Although we cannot prevent aging, nature has given us some herbs with whose help we can delay the aging process. The anti aging property of herbs usually evolves from the antioxidant ingredients found in them. By removing the toxins from the body, preventing oxidation of free radicals, maintaining the hormonal balance and promoting growth of new cells anti aging herbs could delay the aging process of the body.

Ginseng

The rhizome of ginseng is extensively used in traditional Chinese medicine for rejuvenating the body and delaying signs of aging. Researchers have found that this herb could promote protein synthesis. It improves blood circulation and augments metabolism. Ginseng extract could improve skin elasticity. It increases growth of new skin cells and reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Ginseng is also good for the hair. It preserves the natural color of the hair and prevents hair graying.

Fleece flower root

Fleece flower root, known as heshouwu in Chinese, is a popular medicinal herb prescribed in traditional Chinese medicine for preventing the symptoms of aging. This herb helps to flash out toxins from the body and regulates bowel movement. Fleece flower root keeps the skin soft and supple. It could prevent wrinkles. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe that fleece flower root could prevent ‘yin’ deficiency in the liver and kidney. This property of the herb is effective in preventing premature graying of hair and hair loss.

Ginko biloba

Ginko biloba is used for several centuries for preventing symptoms of aging. This herb could repair damaged tissues. Herbalists recommend this medicine for preventing cognitive decline and reducing risk of strokes. The phytochemicals found in ginko biloba could minimize the risk of dementia.

Evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil is a rich source of gamma linolenic acid. This essential fatty acid is noted for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that could delay the aging process. It could preserve the elasticity of the skin, prevent memory loss and strengthens the bones.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha, sometimes referred as Indian ginseng, is used as an anti aging herb in Ayurvedic medicine. This herb is noted for reducing stress, normalizing the blood pressure level, promoting blood circulation and regulating heartbeat.
