Dietary Care During Pregnancy
All women are most careful about themselves during pregnancy. This is the most important phase of their life for as far as food is concerned. They take special care in ensuring that they eat the right foods in order to give their baby the best.
Foods eaten by the mother play a very important role in ensuring the baby is born with a good birth-weight. Babies born with low birth-weight have lots of problems and require special care for most part of their infancy.
They have lowered resistance and immunity. Conversely, those born with higher birth-weights are predisposed to risks like blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems at later stages in life.
It is very important to have all parameters like blood sugars and pressure checked even before you get pregnant. This will help you choose foods for your baby better. Similarly, start eating right foods early in your teens. This will not pose a problem when you get pregnant.
Often, women who tend to be a little careless about their diet in their earlier years have trouble in eating healthy foods during pregnancy, as their cravings gravitate towards junk ad unhealthy foods. Moreover, it has been found that those who have healthier eating habits from the very beginning give their children the benefit of more nutrition while in the womb.
Pregnant women and their babies have special dietary requirement, and they must be taken care of. More protein and calories are vital, as are moderate regular intake of rice, pulses, and carbohydrates. Fruits and vegetables must be consumed generously. Foods to be avoided are foods high in artificial sugars, excess salt, pickles and fried foods.
Start early, and plan your pregnancy well in advance. This will help you give your baby the best, and also keep you in good health throughout.
