Drawing Salve – Remedy For Skin Inflammation

Drawing salve is a natural remedy for treating skin inflammations. This herbal medicine helps to cure boils, abscesses, sores, bee sting, poison ivy, cuts and several skin infections.

The name drawing salve is a testimony of 18th century superstition, when bad spirits were thought to be responsible for skin infections. It was believed that the salve helped to draw out the infection causing spirit from the body.

Drawing salve is still a popular home remedy for healing skin infections. Some folk healers recommend drawing salve for treating skin cancer and cysts and tumor occurring underneath the surface of the skin.

Drawing salve recipes
You can make drawing salve at home with half a teaspoon of Brown Soap, half a teaspoon of sugar and ¾ teaspoon of water. Blend the ingredients well. Apply this drawing salve on the affected area and bandage the areas. After leaving the drawing salve on the affected area overnight, remove the bandage in the morning.

A more powerful drawing salve could be made with herbs. Take an ounce of dry comfrey, plantain or chickweed. Ground the herb and mix it with one ounce of 190-proof ethyl alcohol. Keep the mixture aside for an hour. Now add five ounce of olive oil to the herbal mixture and blend the ingredients, preferably in a blender. Pour the herbal oil in a glass jar and cover the mouth of the jar. Place the jar in sunlight. After exposing the herbal oil to sunlight for a few days, heat the oil over medium flame and add one ounce of beeswax to the oil. Keep on heating the oil until the wax dissolves. Remove the salve from the stove and pour the hot salve in a container. The salve solidifies on cooling.

Black salve is used for treating boils. To make it you need two tablespoons of activated charcoal powder, which is available in health food stores in the form of pills, three tablespoons of bentonite clay, three tablespoons of cocoa butter, two tablespoons of coconut oil, one tablespoon of vitamin E and two tablespoons of beeswax. In a pan, add cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax and heat the ingredients on medium heat. Constantly stir the mixture on medium heat for about 20 minutes. Now add bentonite clay, vitamin E and activated charcoal to the mixture and blend the ingredients. Remove the hot salve from the fire and pour the hot mixture in a container.
