Fashioning Fabrics

November 5, 2008

Beauty and fashion are inextricacably linked. Being beautiful is almost synonymous with being fashionable. There are few who stand our as bein beautful despite their simplicity.

The fabrics we choose for our clothes often get copied from what makes the latest trends. If ehtnic weaves are in, we tend to imbibe them into our wrdrobe blindly without checking for functionality and comfort. A number of fabric, both natural and artificial, are available today. If used well, they can make a great statement of style.

Fabrics should be chosen primarily keeping in mind the type of body you have. If you are the thinner variety, try and look for fabric that can lend a little volume to the body. Cottons are a good option as they have their own character and fall, and help add a little weight to the body. Also, they are natural, light, and breathe well, making them extremely comfortable. For those who want to contour the body slightly, use synthetics and artificial fabrics that fall well.

Choose colours and patterns of fabric that go well with your skin tone. Try and find colours that complement you best and stick to those shades. They can give different effects depending on the fabric that you use. Use natural colours of jute and silks since they complement all kinds of skin.

Lastly, but importantly, choose fabrics that go well with the weather. While light fabrics may be in, you don’t want to be found freezing in a simple tunic in sub-zero temperatures, or draped heavily and sweating beneath layers of clothing in scorching heat. Let functionality also prevail in the fabrics you choose.

Different occasions can have clothes made from fabrics that suit you. Do not let a situation override your style. Clothes can be styled for almost all looks with some imagination. Let your character stand out in the fabrics that you choose for yourself.

Be your own fashion designer and see how much you can impress yourself. Clothes don’t have to be expensive to look good on you. You can make the clothes look good instead.
