Fennel Tea Benefits

Fennel is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean region, where different parts of this plant are used extensively in the local cuisine.

Fennel seeds are also used throughout Asia and Europe in cooking and for making herbal medicines. The tea made from fennel seeds is recommended by folk healers for curing several ailments.

Fennel tea recipe

To make fennel tea, steep two teaspoons of fennel seeds in a cup of hot water for about ten to fifteen minutes. Fennel tea could provide relief from gastrointestinal problems, sore eyes, symptoms of menopause and premenstrual syndrome. For children below 5 years and infants, one teaspoon and ¼-teaspoon fennel seeds should be used respectively for making the tea.

Gastrointestinal problems

Fennel tea is extremely beneficial for curing indigestion and stimulating appetite. It cures flatulence, acidity, and abdominal cramps. This herbal tea is also safe for children suffering from abdominal pain and gas. Fennel tea is sometimes recommended to cancer patients, to reverse the damage caused to their digestive system from chemotherapy and radiation treatment. This herbal tea is also beneficial for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.

Food poisoning remedy

Fennel tea could be the antidote for food poisoning. It could also reduce the irritation caused by insect bite.

For women’s health

Fennel tea is extremely beneficial for lactating women. It stimulates milk secretion. Fennel seeds are a rich source of plant estrogen. Fennel tea is recommended for treating premenstrual syndrome. It can also reduce the symptoms associated with menopause.

Bad breath remedy

People suffering from bad breath  should drink fennel tea to reduce their embarrassment.

Cures respiratory problems

Fennel tea is an effective remedy for curing cough and cold. It is a good expectorant. By dissolving the mucus, responsible for congestion of the lungs, fennel tea is also beneficial for treating asthma, bronchitis and whopping cough.

For eyes

Fennel tea is good for the eyes. Soak a cloth in lukewarm fennel tea and put it on your eyes for about ten minutes. This helps to cure eye inflammation and is a good treatment for puffy eyes.
