Foot Cramp Cure
Foot cramps can occur at all ages. Although, sedentary lifestyle are often blamed for causing foot cramps, but we find that even athletes and sportspersons suffer from foot cramps.
Causes of foot cramps
Decreased circulation of oxygen in the foot results in foot cramps.
Electrolyte imbalance in the body is largely responsible for causing muscle cramps. Salts of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium comprise the body electrolyte. Through these elements, electrical signals are transmitted from the brain to the various parts of our body. Dip in the potassium level in the blood is largely responsible for foot cramps.
If you are not drinking enough water, foot cramps occur because of dehydration. In sportspersons, loss of potassium and water through sweating are responsible for muscle cramps. Smoking and consumption of excess alcohol causes dehydration, poor blood and oxygen circulation in the body and increase in toxicity in the blood. These factors cause foot cramps among smokers and alcoholics.
Fatigue caused by walking or standing for a prolonged period causes foot cramps. This especially happens, when you stand or walk on a hard surface for a long time. Foot problems are common in people suffering from diabetes. Diabetic patients suffer from foot cramps owing to poor blood circulation in the feet.
Foot cramp remedy
Foot cramps can be easily treated with diet and lifestyle changes. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables could help to maintain the electrolyte balance in your body. If you frequently suffer from foot cramps, prepare a solution with potassium chloride, water and honey and take in every day.
Also, increase consumption of potassium rich foods, such as banana, cucumber, cauliflower and potato. Drink at least two liters of water everyday, and avoid smoking and alcohol intake to prevent dehydration, which can be responsible for your foot cramps.
To cure the cramp, you should always pull the contracted muscle in the opposite direction of the cramp. Foot cramps often occurs while sleeping. Keeping your foot in an awkward position for a long time, while sleeping, is responsible for contraction of your foot muscle.
