For Beautiful, Lustrous Eyes
April 1, 2009
Eyes are the most important of the five sense organs given to us by God. We see the world through our eyes. The world would have been all dark and colorless, had we not the vision to see its beauty. Although ours eyes are so important to us, we fail to take care of them. We are more interested in our skin and hair and fail to give eyes their due attention. The result of all this carelessness is dull and tired eyes, sore eyes, and reddishness of the eyes and finally loss of vision.
Eye Care
We can have beautiful, lustrous eyes always, only if we take good care of them. It does not take much time to look after our eyes, 15 minutes a day is enough for eye care.
Carrots
Carrots contain carotene which converts into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is responsible for strengthening the eyes and defending them from night blindness. Thus, consumption of carrots provides nutrition not to the body but basically to the eyes.
Aniseeds
Take one tbsp of aniseeds powder each morning and evening. This is particularly beneficial in the treatment of cataract.
Coriander and Acacia
Make a decoction of coriander and wash your eyes with it if you are suffering from conjunctivitis. This will immediately decrease the burning, redness and swelling of the eyes. Acacia leaves are also very effective in curing conjunctivitis. A paste of acacia leaves should be applied on the eyes before going to sleep at night. It will lessen the itchiness, wateriness and the reddishness of the sore eyes.
Parsley
The juice of raw parsley is useful for treating eye disorders. It cures the eyes of problems such as corneal ulcers, cataracts, weak eyes, conjunctivitis, opthalmia and slowness of the pupils.
Almonds
Soak almonds in milk and keep them overnight. In the morning, mix this milk with sandalwood. Apply this on eyelids carefully. This reduces redness of the eyes due to physical exertion.
One should also take care of his/her diet, apart from following these remedies. Food such as carrots, papaya, oranges and pumpkins are rich in Vitamin A and should be consumed in large amounts.
Among non-vegetarian foodstuffs, fish, liver and eggs contain vitamin A. Food such as Indian gooseberry, guava, orange, lemon and tomato, capsicum, cabbage, etc. are rich in Vitamin C and help reduce chances of cataracts.
