Cauliflower belongs to the Brassicaceae family, a family which is known for containing nutrients that fight against several diseases. Cauliflower as a vegetable is many times overlooked, for seldom do people know that it possesses a very high nutritional density.

Cauliflower is near to the ground in fat, soaring in dietary fiber, folate, water and vitamin C. As a member of the Brassicaceae family, cauliflower shares with broccoli and cabbage several phyto chemicals which are valuable to human wellbeing.

It includes sulforaphane, an anti-cancer compound released when cauliflower is chopped or chewed. Toxins that may damage ,the cells and turn cancerous, are swept out of the system by sulforaphane, preventing tumors,even before they begin. The compound indole-3-carbinol, which comes into view to work as an anti-estrogen, appears to slow down or put off the expansion of tumors of the breast and prostate.

Cauliflowers also include materials which may improve the liver’s capability to detoxify carcinogenic substances.An elevated ingestion of cauliflower has been found to diminish the risk of destructive prostate cancer.

Cauliflower also contains vitamin C and folate. Folate helps in the blood’s efforts more efficiently and is often suggested for preventing anemia. Folate is also crucial for proper tissue growth, lack of the same , can make you susceptible to many diseases. It is often recommended that women who are pregnant or may become pregnant eat noteworthy amounts of cauliflower in order to help their unborn children develop properly.

Cauliflower encloses Allicin, which can improve heart health and lessen the risk of strokes, and selenium, a chemical that works well with Vitamin C to fortify the immune system. Cauliflower is also helpful in maintaining a healthy cholesterol level. Three florets of cauliflower a day will provide you with 67% of your daily vitamin C requirement.

While purchasing cauliflower, make sure the tops are white. If the floret has brown spots, it is past its dietary crest. Raw cauliflower will give you the highest nutritional benefits. However, if you have to cook it, steam it lightly .
