Ginseng is a perennial herb growing widely on different parts of the world. It belongs to the genus Panax with in the family of Araliaceae. Ginseng is an important ingredient of many of the medicinal preparations as it has many energizing and healing properties. The chemical present in ginseng called Ginsenosides is responsible for its properties. Its fleshy roots are used for making teas. The roots of the ginseng plant that has grown for more than six years are harvested for making tea., sometimes the leaves are also used for making tea.Types of Ginseng
There are two types of ginseng named white ginseng and red ginseng. Its their processing that makes this difference. In order to make white ginseng the roots are peeled and dried in sun. These dried roots look yellowish white and hence the name white ginseng. For making the red ginseng the roots are not at all peeled and instead they are steamed which in turn makes them reddish brown. It is then dried in sun.
Preparation of Ginseng Tea
For making tea you can use both fresh roots or dried roots. If fresh roots are being used then take two teaspoon of thinly sliced strips of ginseng roots for making tea. If it is dried root then take one teaspoon. Add the roots to a ceramic pan or glass pot and add two cups water to it. Bring the mixture to boiling heat by keeping it in a medium flame and then reduce the flame to low and keep it for 15 minutes. Then filter the tea to a cup . In order to make favored ginseng tea you can add honey, lemon grass, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods etc to the tea.

Ginseng tea is highly beneficial for improving menstrual problems like distress, cramps, reducing pain etc. Being an energizing drink ginseng tea is widely used for improving low blood pressure.
