Health Ailments and Tooth Troubles – The Link

December 8, 2008

People associate dental care with brushing well, and flossing. Dental problems are not confined to merely cavities, bad breath and gum care. There are a number of other problems that are associated with health ailments that must be cared for.

Many people try to avoid seeing a dentist by using their own remedies to try and reduce pain in the teeth. It is common to find the use of cloves and clove oil in dental cavities that cause pain. While it may be alright to use these remedies once, avoid using them over time sice the oils and clove has a tendency to burn the skin and gums beyond repair. See a dentist as soon as you can to attend to tooth pains.

Diabetes is a sugar related ailment that most people are aware of. That sugar intake harms the teeth is known by all. However, diabetes has the tendency to weaken the gums and bones as well. The internal damage is far reaching. While the teeth weaken and get loose and fall, the bones and gums do not offer any support. Hence, it sometimes becomes impossible to even offer dentures to these patients.

The medicines taken by tuberculosis patients adversely affects the teeth of patients. The enamel is known to erode, and the teeth weaken greatly. The health of teeth is impacted greatly by all medication that we take.

Pregnant ladies tend to care for themselves and the baby well. Once the baby is born, there is often neglect. Failure to continue taking calcium supplements for as long as the mother nurses causes weaker teeth at later stages of life.

A flip side is that improper care of teeth can also lead to other health ailments. Teeth problems like persistent presence of bacteria and germs in the mouth can lead to even heart problems. Since all that is in the mouth passes to all parts of the body through the food we eat, it is natural for harmful germs to get to other regions as well.

To combat any or all these troubles, make sure you pay great attention to the teeth. Get even minor problems attended to at the earliest. Regular check ups and cleaning of the teeth is mandatory. Brush and floss the teeth well, and make sure you use some effective mouthwash to gargle before you retire at night.

Another important aspect is care for the body. You have more reason now to keep all health ailments away. Not only the health of your body, but also the teeth is at stake.
