Brinjal is a vegetable which is otherwise called eggplant. Brinjal is an erect growing herb with many branches. It even grows above 3-4 feet and it has slightly haired leaves.
Flowers are produced from the leaf axils and the fruit that develop from it will be an ellipsoid or elongated berry. In its immature stage it will be a greenish white vegetable and will turn in to deep violet when mature. Some varieties remain greenish white itself.
Brinjal is rich in potassium and has good water content in it. It is a very good vegetable that has many medicinal properties. It provides most of the essential nutrients that are beneficial for our health.
Nutrients in Brinjal
Brinjal has no cholesterol and has only very little fat in it. It contains protein, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, folates, niacin, choline, pyridoxine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, thiamin and vitamin C, A, E and K. it also contains minerals like copper, calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc and electrolytes like sodium, potassium etc. The B vitamins present is brinjal are essential for the body for the metabolism of protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Flatulence
We can use brinjal soup or mashed brinjal along with asafetida and garlic and this helps us to get rid of the flatulence. Roast a brinjal directly over the fire and peel off the skin. Now mash the brinjal with some salt and consume it. This will help you to get rid of the gas and also the congestion with in the body.
Insomnia
Consume a baked brinjal along with honey daily at night and this aid in getting rid of insomnia.
Enlarged Spleen
Try to consume baked brinjal along with raw sugar on empty stomach daily in the morning. This will effectively reduce the enlargement of the spleen caused by malaria.
Cancer
Brinjal is found to be beneficial for preventing cancer as it contains phenolic favonoid phyto-chemicals in substantial amount. These chemicals are called anthocyanin and it has good anti-oxidant property. The anti-oxidant property of brinjal will help us to get rid of the cancer causing free radicals from our body and thus keeping us healthy.
