Hibiscus is a flowering plant used for landscaping. There are different varieties of hibiscus available in different shape, size and colors. Among this the bright red variety is supposed to be the best. More than its esthetic value it has many health benefits too. The flowers and leaves of hibiscus are used widely for different purposes.
Health Benefits of Hibiscus
Anti-oxidant
Hibiscus is found to have good amount of anti-oxidants in them. The anti-oxidants in hibiscus will help to reduce the levels of cholesterol. It may also aid in lowering the blood pressure and thus reduces the risk of getting heart diseases. Anti-oxidants may also help you to reduce the chances for getting cancer.
Blood count
Hibiscus flowers are ideal for increasing the blood count in anemic people. Boil some flowers in small quantity of water and mix it with roasted cumin seeds. Add some salt to this mixture and mix well. You can also add water to dilute the mixture. Drink this mixture daily and this will help you to increase your hemoglobin.
Fever
Tea made out of hibiscus can help you to reduce the frequently occurring temperature fluctuations. Hibiscus will give you a cooling effect.
Hair Care
The flowers and leaves of hibiscus are widely used for caring the hairs. Add some leaves and flowers of hibiscus to coconut oil and heat the oil slightly. Then keep the warm oil for cooling. Strain the oil from the mixture and store in clean bottles. Massage this oil on your scalp and leave it for one hour. There after wash the hair with a shampoo and this will prevent the hair fall and also improve your hair growth. It will also check the dandruff on your scalp.
Acne
Hibiscus is a good remedy for acne. Spread a paste made out of leaves and flowers of hibiscus on your face on the acne affected area. Keep this paste there for a 15 minutes and wash off with water. Repeat this daily till your acne goes off. Hibiscus paste can also protect you from sunburn.
Hibiscus is also ideal for treating constipation, bladder infection, mild nausea etc.
