Herbal Remedies for Dandruff

Dandruff is a scalp condition characterized by flaking and itching of the scalp. Dry skin of the scalp increases flakiness and formation of dandruff. Sometimes excessive oiliness can trigger dandruff formation, a condition known as Seborrheic Dermatitis. Lack of hygiene causes the grease and dead skin cells to build up on the scalp, producing dandruff. Whatever be the cause of dandruff, the flakes on your scalp can be quite embarrassing. Herbs are often used for treating dandruff. They are usually safe for the scalp and the hair.

Fenugreek seeds
In Ayurvedic medicine, fenugreek seeds are prescribed for treating dandruff. Fenugreek seed paste is applied on the scalp to cure dandruff. Leave the paste on the scalp for about 30 minutes and wash your hair with a mild shampoo. You can boil two teaspoons of fenugreek seed in 200ml of coconut oil for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Apply this oil on your scalp before going to bed. In the morning, wash your hair.

Licorice
Dandruff developing on oily scalp could be treated with licorice. Licorice helps to reduce the oiliness of the scalp. To treat dandruff, rinse your hair with cool licorice tea. You can also add a teaspoon of licorice in a bottle of vinegar and use this mixture for rinsing your hair.

Ginger
Ginger is widely used for treating digestion problems. However, folk healers sometimes recommend ginger for treating dandruff. Mix a tablespoon of ginger juice with one teaspoon of lemon juice and three tablespoons of sesame seed oil. Apply this mixture on your scalp three to four times a week.

Rosemary
This common culinary herb could help to prevent dandruff. Soak cotton ball in rosemary tea and apply it on your scalp. You can also rinse your hair with rosemary tea or rosemary decoction. Applying rosemary paste on your scalp can also help to heal this scalp condition.

Burdock
To cure dandruff, you can use burdock tea for rinsing your hair. You can also apply burdock root oil on your scalp for treating dandruff.

Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic agent. You can apply tea tree oil for curing dandruff and itching.
