Herbal Remedy for Migraine Headache

Migraine headaches are characterized by debilitating pain on one side of the head, which may last for a few hours or sometimes for a few days. Sometimes before occurrence of the headache, migraine sufferers see auras, flashes of light or experience tingling sensation in the arm and legs.

The sensitivity to light and sound increases during migraine attacks. When the headache occurs, migraine patients look for darkness and silence for relief.

Migraine causes

The exact cause of migraine is unknown. Allergens, physical and emotional stress, smoking, alcohol drinking, hormonal changes are some of the factors thought to be responsible for migraine headaches. Drugs are prescribed to prevent and treatment of headaches. Home remedies are frequently used for treating migraine-related headaches.

Home remedies for migraine

Certain fruit juices are seen to be effective in reducing migraine headache. Grape juices can reduce migraine headache. To treat migraine headache, the juice should be extracted from fresh ripe grapes. It should not be diluted with water. Similarly, juices of orange, carrot, cucumber, celery, beet and spinach can prevent occurrence of migraine headaches.

Migraine headaches could be cured by aromatherapy. Inhale odors of sandalwood oil, lavender oil, peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil to reduce the pain. The odor helps to sooth the nerves and provides relief from the headache.

You can also pour a few drops of the above-mentioned essential oils in a cup of cold water. Now dip a soft cloth in the water, rinse it and put it on your forehead. You will discover that your migraine headache is gradually subsiding.

Make a paste with grated lemon peel. Apply the paste on your forehead. Your headache will gradually diminish.

Similarly, cinnamon paste, when applied on the forehead can reduce migraine headache. Migraine headache can be cured by drinking chamomile tea.

To reduce incidences of migraine headache, include foods rich in niacin and magnesium in your daily diet. Niacin could be found in wheat bran, peanuts, fish, yeast, liver and sunflower seeds. You can get your magnesium supply from bananas, soy products, beans, seafood and whole grains.
