Herbs for Stress Relief

Stress is a problem of modern lifestyle. There are myriads ways of coping with stress. Nature has given us some herbs, which can be used for beating stress.

Chamomile

Chamomile is truly a versatile herb. In traditional medicines, this herb is used for curing delirium and nightmares. Chamomile helps our body to relax. If you feel tired and stressed, a cup of chamomile tea can help to lift your mood.

Rosemary

This common culinary herb can also act as a stress buster. Rosemary acts as a muscle relaxant. By relaxing the muscles, this herb helps in increasing blood circulation throughout our entire body, including the brain, which is the epicenter of stress.

Sage

This herb helps to boost our memory and relaxes the mind. Sage is packed with antioxidants, which fights free radicals released in our body during stressful situations.

Dill

The tranquilizing property of dill is utilized for curing sleeplessness. Besides making our mind calm, dill is also beneficial for our digestive health. Prolonged stress is associated with stomach problems. Stress causes stomach ulcers, abdominal cramps, constipation and diarrhea. Dill can prevent digestive problems and helps our stomach to function smoothly.

Lemon Balm

This herb of the mint family can calm the mind, control mood swings and cure insomnia. People suffering from stress can drink lemon balm tea to reduce stress.

Green Tea

Green tea contains theanine. According to studies, theanine, a plant chemical, is capable of reducing stress. This helps to relax our body and acts as a mild sedative. Certain herbal stress relief medications contain theanine extract. Therefore, drinking green tea is recommended for beating stress.

Valerian

This is another herb, which has been used for centuries to cure insomnia. This root of this plant is recommended for reducing stress.

Siberian Ginseng

A strong nervous system is needed to beat stress. Siberian Ginseng strengthens our nervous system. It relieves fatigues and reduces anxiety and depression.

Rhodiola Rosea

This herb works in the same way as Siberian Ginseng. It improves our memory and reduces mental fatigue.

Kava

This tropical plant contains a chemical called kavalactone, which calms our mind and lifts our mood.
