High Creatinine Level Causes
October 14, 2009
Creatine is a substance that the body produces to store energy. Metabolism of creatine produces a waste, known as creatinine. Every day nearly 2 percent of the total creatine present in the body is metabolized into creatinine.
When the creatinine is released after muscle metabolism into the bloodstream, it is carried to the kidneys, which remove the creatinine from the blood, consequently flashing the metabolic waste out of the body through urine.
Creatinine level in blood
Since the mass of the muscles in the body remains fairly constant, the creatinine level remains more or less at the normal level. In adult males, creatinine level in the bloodstream from 0.6 to 1.2mg per dl is considered normal. In adult females, the normal creatine level in the blood is between 0.5 and 1.1mg per dl. It is normal for muscular adults to have a higher creatinine level than the general population.
It is normal for athletes to have high creatinine level. Compared to the elderly, young and middle aged people will have higher creatinine level. The normal creatinine level of people with one kidney is usually higher than the normal creatinine level of the general population.
Their normal creatinine level could rise up to 1.9mg per dl. Infants might have creatinine level as low as 0.2mg per dl. People with poor muscle mass will have creatinine level lower than the normal level.
High creatinine level causes
If the kidneys are unable to function properly, they are unable to remove the creatinine molecules from the bloodstream. Rise in creatinine level usually indicates kidney malfunction. High creatinine level might be the side effect of certain medications.
Prolonged intake of high blood pressure and antibiotics medicines could increase the creatinine level. Excess consumption of meat can also raise the creatinine level in the bloodstream.
High creatinine level remedy
Improving kidney function could help to reduce the elevated creatinine level naturally. Diabetes could reduce the functionality of kidneys, leading to high creatinine level. To reduce the creatinine level, blood sugar levels should be kept under control. Herbs such as cinnamon, dandelion and Siberian Ginseng could help to lower the creatinine level.
