Home Based Astringents

March 14, 2009

An astringent besides controlling oil from sebaceous glands and tightening the skin  , improves the circulation of blood in tissues of skin. An astringent also helps to lower the PH level of skin after cleansing. It removes all the traces of leftover makeup and opens up l the pores which have been clogged by grease and grim. Astringent should be such that it works according to your skin requirements and improves overall appearance of skin.

Astringent should be used after immediate washing of skin and before using moisturizer. After washing your face with a gentle cleanser, dry your face using a soft towel.

Then dip a cotton ball in the astringent and apply it on the skin in gentle strokes, especially on t-zone and cheeks. Then apply moisturizer.
Though many products are available in the market, it is safer and cheaper to use natural astringents, easily available at home.

Some of the most effectual astringents are:

  • Shred cucumber and press to have juice and mix it with lemon juice. Apply on the face with help of a cotton ball.
Peel, grate and squeeze out cucumber juice, add to it 3 tbsp. Rosewater, 1 tbsp of glycerin and 2 tbsp of eau-de-cologne. Refrigerate for long use.
  • Blend 8 tbsp of sandalwood oil with 2 tbsp of almond oil, 1 tbsp of honey, and 4 tbsp of rosewater. Store it in an airtight jar and refrigerate for preserving.
  • Take slim slices of   lemon and orange, and blend it into a paste. Strain it and store in an airtight jar. It refreshes the skin, removes oil and tightens the pores.
  • Take one egg, 1 tbsp milk and tsp honey. Beat them well and apply on face and neck. Keep it for ½ an hour. Wash it off with warm water followed by a spray of cold water.

Experience a refreshed, radiant and supple skin.
