Home Cures for Diarrhea
Diarrhea is a health condition marked by unformed stools. The stools are either in semi formed state, or in liquid form. The stool may have bacteria present, with fever accompanying.
The condition is caused by an imbalance in the body humours – air, water and fire. Other causes are sudden fright, worry, change of diet and climate.
Stop eating solids completely. Stay on a liquid diet for a while, until the stools take better form. Make sure you have adequate liquids, or the body could get dehydrated. The best liquids for the body are coconut water, water mixed with a pinch each of salt and sugar, and barley water.
Have boiled mineral water. It will help hydrate the body. Add some salt and honey to it. Lemon juice also makes a good remedy. Make sure you have a little of the liquid every few minutes. Adults should consume between two or three litres a day, while childrent should have at least one litre to prevent dehydration.
Rice gruel is another good food. Make it slightly loose, Cook it well, and strain before having. It soothes irritated bowels well.
Boiled white rice mixed with ripe, mashed banana is a good remedy for children.
Yogurt is known to kill bacteria and makes a good food at this time since it also cools the system down well.
The juice of potato, carrot juice and honey help clear out infection in the bowel.
Stewed apples are very good. They not only have a pleasant taste for the tongue, but also help control bowels.
The gruel of arrowroot made using a lot of water is very good. It can be made either using salt, or sugar, or both. It helps bind the stomach well.
If there is pain in the stomach, have some yogurt mixed with fenugreek seeds which will cool and relieve well.
