Hold your breath. This can help stop hiccups quickly when caused by obstructions.

Gargling can also prove effective. Try and take some water that is slightly cool and gargle at regular intervals. This should help correct hiccups.

Take some ice and place it in the region that is over the diaphragm. Holding the icebag in this area for a while helps relieve hiccups.

Take some ice water and sip it quickly. This will give instant relief and is known to cure hiccups at most instances.

Drink a glass of either soda or water. Make sure either beverage is cold while you drink it, and see that it is drunk quickly, and not sipped.

Put a little sugar in the mouth and take it in slowly. This is a tested cure for hiccups.

Take about one tablespoon of peanut butter and eat it.

Avoid eating either hot or spicy foods. Since hiccups occur due to disturbances in the oesophagus, avoid taking in anything that would irritate it.

Milk is another good remedy. Drink some cold milk as it will not only soothe, but also help get rid of the hiccups quickly.
