Home Remedies for Acidity and Heartburn
Acidity and heartburn occur when a lot of acid accumulates in the stomach that causes exasperation of the gastro-intestinal casing. This cases a continuous pain and burning in the lower abdomen. Flowing back of excessive acid into the food pipe causes heartburn.
Causes
Frequent eating of spicy food is the most common cause of acidity. Apart from that rapid eating without proper chewing of the food, inadequate sleep, over-stress and tension, consumption of alcohol and first pregnancy can also cause acidity.
Remedies
People suffering from acidity find it difficult to digest most of the things they eat. One must begin the treatment of acidity with bananas. Bananas not only cure acidity, they also cure one’s digestive ability. One may eat as many bananas a day as one chooses to.
A mixture of apple vinegar and honey in a glass of water makes a very tasty remedy for acidity. It should be consumed twice a day before meals.
Basil (tulsi) leaves are also a good cure for acidity. Chewing two to three basil leaves every four hours work very well to cure acidity. It also cures nausea and gas.
Jaggery is a favourite remedy for acidity. Put a small piece of jaggery in your mouth and keep sucking it. Keep doing so every half an hour. Continue this till acidity comes under control.
Cold milk acts fast to cure acidity temporarily. Coconut water is also a temporary relief. Coconut water must be taken 3-4 times a day for three days to get acidity under control. Sucking a clove also helps the same way.
Amla (Indian Gooseberry) and Chebulic myrobalan are the best remedy fro acidity. A mixture of 1 teaspoon of amla juice and 1 teaspoon of Chebulic myrobalan should be consumes every morning. This is the best way to stop chronic acidity.
Apart from this one must ensure never to skip meals, to sleep on a elevated pillow and to quit smoking. Cutting down on consumption of tea coffee and alcohol is also advised.
