Home Remedies for Bed Wetting

Bed wetting is the unintentional urination while sleeping and is also called as enuresis. This creates an embarrassing situation for both the kid and for the parents. The child will get wet and his sleep may get disturbed. The child may also refuse to spend the night outside his home because of this reason.

Causes of Bed Wetting

In certain cases it may be  inherited from their parents or someone else in the family. In some other cases it may be due to the small sized bladder that can’t hold the urine formed during the night. While in certain other cases the child will be in deep sleep to know about the sensation of urination. At times the immature nervous system fails to give the impulse that gives the feeling that the bladder is full. Certain diseases and hormonal factors will also plays an important role in bed wetting.

Home Remedies

1.    It is recommended that taking one tablespoon raisins and two tablespoon walnut haves before going to bed will stop bed wetting.

2.    Stop taking liquid food two hours prior to sleep and make sure that urinary bladder is empty.

3.    Consume one cup of milk mixed with mustard powder before going to bed and it will stop bed wetting.

4.    Chocolates, soy, caffeine, junk food etc are found to be working as diuretics and hence you have to stop feeding your kids with such foods at night. This will help them to stop bed wetting.

5.    Teach your kid to strengthen their sphincter muscles which helps them to control urination. They can identify the sphincter muscles by stopping the urine flow midstream and then allow the urine to flow again. Once they recognize the way to control the sphincter muscle then they can practice contracting the sphincter muscles when they are not passing the urine. This will help them to strengthen the sphincter muscles and thus prevent bed wetting.

6.    You can also teach your kid to strengthen the bladder muscle and there by increase urine holding capacity. Ask them to hold the urine during the day time first for a few minutes and then increase the time slowly. This will help them to stop bed wetting.

7.    Herbal tea made from herbs like bear berry, horsetail, oak bark or wormwood is found to beneficial.

8.    Drink eight ounce of cranberry juice one hour before going to bed is also beneficial.

9.    Consuming cinnamon bark, parsley, brown rice, leafy vegetables etc are also found to be beneficial.
