Home Remedies for Common Cold

Common Cold is a frequent problem at every home. The symptoms of common cold are running nose, cough, sneezing, headache and at times body ache too. People generally tend to go for some paracetamol to get rid of it. However, very few people know about common home remedies that work faster and better than any drug found at the chemist.

If one has a mild cold, lemon acts as a very good remedy. Lemon, being rich in Vitamin C helps to increase the capacity of the body to fight and resist the virus causing cold; it also helps in decreasing the durability of the illness. The juice of one lemon should be diluted in one glass of warm water along with a spoon of honey and taken twice a day.

If cold is severe, then Garlic Soup is recommended once a day. Three to four cloves of chopped garlic are boiled in a cup of water to prepare this soup. Garlic has several medicinal values other than its anti-toxin and antiseptic properties. Garlic helps immediately to clear up respiratory passages.

Turmeric is the most common home remedy for common cold and the favourite of all mothers. Turmeric milk is by far the commonest of home remedies, be it for cold or for any cut or injury. Half a teaspoon of fresh turmeric powder mixed in a glass of warm milk, if taken twice a day, works as a miracle for any cold or body ache.

The other use of turmeric is not very common. But it is a very effective cure for running nose. If the patient is made to inhale the fumes of burning turmeric, the discharge from the nose will increase and immediate relief will be experienced.

Tamarind also acts as a good cure for common cold, although its use is not very common. A soup prepared of tamarind and black pepper, if taken twice to thrice a day helps to clear the throat and the nasal passage. However, when one is consuming the soup, one may experience watering of the eyes.
