Home Remedies for Jaw Ache

Jaw Ache is referred to mild or severe pain of jaw due to external or internal injuries, sinusitis, jaw cysts, osteoarthritis, herpes zoster, enlarged jaw, habit of nail biting and bruxism.
By following these tried and tested home remedies, it is possible for anyone to get rid from jaw ache with in a day or two.
Hot & Cold Treatment – Application of cold ice packs over the affected portion of jaw provides instantaneous relief from pain. A cold ice pack should be applied locally for at least 15 minutes. It is advisable to switch between warm and cold compresses several times a day for the relaxation of jaw muscles and enhance flow of blood in jaw. A hot compress should not be applied for more than 15 minutes or it can result in burnt skin.
Kneading – Smooth massaging of jaw muscles with kneading technique is one of the most used home remedy for jaw ache. Jaw massage helps in relaxation of tensed muscles that is one of the most common causes of jaw ache in majority of people. Massaging technique should be exercised 2 times during a day.
Nutrition – Increased consumption of calcium rich foods in daily meals provides extra strength to jaw. Inclusion of pepper in meals release Capsaicin in body which is known to control substance P. Substance P is a neurotransmitter that transmits the signals of pain.
Mouthwash – A blend of hot water with a pinch of salt in it should be prepared. This blend should be used for gargling. The recommended duration of gargling is 10 minutes.
This natural mouthwash helps in relaxing the tensed nerves and muscles of jaw. This technique had been used by the Egyptians and Indian since ancient times. Gargling with this natural mouthwash should be done several times during a day for optimum results.
Avoid – A person suffering from mild or severe jaw ache should in all circumstances avoid intake of chewable foods or foods that require wide opening of mouth. It is advisable to keep the jaw activities to minimum. Consumption of junk food and beverages like burgers, cheese sandwiches or sodas should also be discouraged for an early recovery.
